Andres Seco Hernandez: Happy Birthday, guadawireless

Four years ago, Febreary 7, 2002, some people in Guadalajara, Spain, starts connecting some houses using 802.11b in ad-hoc mode. After 4 years, there are a very interesting network of 89 operational and ready to free use nodes conecting the set of free networks of Guadalajara. You can see it at http://www.guadawireless.net.

A lot of services inside the network are free too, and almost all the servers in the network are hosted by Debian running machines. There are a lot of Linksys WRT54G using diferent versions of free firmwares (mainly OpenWRT), and a lot of SMC/USR access points with LinuxAP firmware.

Thanks to all the people involved in the project and happy birthday.

Andres Seco Hernandez: Too much work may be no good

Sometimes i ask me about the sense of too much work, too many pending tasks and getting involved in more things i can do. Perhaps i am the type of people that can not say "no" when somebody ask me to do something.

I think there are two type of people from the point of view of creativity and contribution of contents , providers and consumers, servers and clients ;-). Some of my friends are only consumers, they do not want to provide anything of this type of things (documents, images, events, aplications, theathre, etc.), they even think that near people that is creating and contributing are going to be in trouble and are going to have a lot of work that will prevent to have time to dedicate it to they themselves. And perhaps they are right.

But somebody will have it to do.

Since i can remember, i have been in the side of the "servers". In the theater of the school, in the choir of the church, developing aplications, coordinating free network projects, etc.

And i know i have lost a lot of experiences in the side of the "clients". I am surprised of the amount of things that I am losing myself not being an Internet "consumer" or a theater "consumer" or a computer "consumer".

But somebody will have it to do.

Have a good day.

Andres Seco Hernandez: Video again, sponsoring and Noche Vieja

Holger Levsen wrote me with news from "the lost video" from debconf-es II. It has a special meaning for me, as my old boss and dear friend, Salvador Garcia, talks about the reasons we must continue looking for new software options continuosly. Holger gets the VHS tape and i didn't remember about it. Thanks, Holger.

Finally my ipw2200 runs with the correct firmware version in 2.6.14. Uff.

I have spent this two last nights reviewing some packages from two future NM, Ivan Forcada and Javier Ballesteros. They are swscanner, ksalup and mgm. Sponsoring packages is really hard. If they were my own packages i have not to explain what i see inadecuate, but i think is worth enough because they have much ilusion and desire to contribute something to the project. Amaya talk in debconf-es II about "El sponsor, ese animal esquivo" was really funny. I am thinking about creating an Amaya's Fun Club, as she made with Branden ;-)

Be careful with alcohol in the last night of the year. We call it in Spain "Noche Vieja".

Fun for all.

Andres Seco Hernandez: Tired of video conversions and ipw2200

After many hours capturing some videos from DebConf-es II, i realize that the inaguration act is not recorded. The tape is as virgin as originally. Aggggh!!! The hardware will be hot this cold night recoding audio and video.

In my new computer, a HP nx8220, i have failed for the third time trying to load the wifi card firmware. I though this wouldn't be a problem, in my old acer i had it running almost without problems. Alvaro, my companion, has obtained it in the same portatil some hours ago. I have lost ;-)

Andres Seco Hernandez: Merry Xmas

Perhaps people needs a good reason to keep in touch with somebody a lot time ago loose contact. Christmas, i think, is just a good reason to call them and lought some time about old reminds.

I promise to call some old friends during this days, and to finish my compromise to see inside some packages two future (i am sure) DD to upload soon as sponsorized packages.

Merry Xmas for all of you, and all other people.

Andres Seco Hernandez: Re-Starting my blog

After debdonf-es II i will try to get my blog again up. A lot of work in the last weeks preparing the event but many satisfied people talking around.

My blog is just a wiki page, so i have done a little script in perl to extract contents and generate a RSS 2.0 for planet.debian.org. If you want it, ask me, this wiki is a very old phpwiki embedded on a postnuke cms, so almost nobody in the world can use it directly. The main part of the script is a sql loop that calls XML::RSS to generate the feed.

In this new era of my blog, i will write in english, so, prepare you to read a lot of stupid errors :-(

Have a good day.
